The first weekend of water ramping

The first weekend of water ramping kicked off in a successful fashion this past Saturday and Sunday. In terms of the weather, we had a little bit of sun, a little clouds, a little wind, and a little rain. However, the nothing that the weather had to offer deterred Emma, Max, Rowen, Brian, or Cody from having a great time!

Each day was jam packed with activity. We enjoyed everything from water ramping, trampolining, walking, swimming, playing games of can jam and soccer, and having fun in giant sand pits. We broke briefly each day to stop and eat some lunch.

Here are some of our shenanigans:

Everyone progressed and learned new tricks this past weekend too! Max was learning misty's, and Rowen was learning front flips, both on the trampoline.

Emma learned her first back flip on skis:

Brian and Cody were both working on their first double corks:

I was thoroughly impressed with the effort that each athlete exerted this past weekend. And I can't wait for next weekend.

2013 USASA Ski and Snowboard National Championships

It is the spring of 2013 and another USASA National Championships has come and gone. Over the course of the winter thousands of athletes, in dozens of age groups, have competed in regionally sanctioned events, to try their hand at qualifying for and competing in the National Championships at Copper Mountain. More than 1600 athletes made the voyage to Copper this year to compete. The competitions took place over a two-week span of time. During the first week the snowboarders took to the slopes, and in the second week, the skier's had their turn. In total, 31 athletes from the Adirondack series competed in the disciplines of ski cross, slopestyle, rail jam, or half pipe, and most of the athletes competed in a combination of these events.

ADK represented at the opening ceremonies

Here is a bigger look at opening ceremonies. Can you find ADK?

The weather over the majority of the two weeks of competitions was absolutely spectacular. However, there were a few occasions where Mother Nature showed us her wrath and challenged the athlete's levels of maturity, determination, and perseverance. In true Adirondacker fashion, the athletes who represented this wonderful series proved, on these challenging days, that when the going gets tough, the tough get going

A snap shot of some happy ADKers

The list that follows is the full report of the athletes who represented the Adirondack series, and the results that they obtained at the 2013 USASA National Championships:

In total, the athletes representing the Adirondack series claimed 2 gold medals, 5 bronze medals and 13 other top 10 positions! This was the best showing from the Adirondack series to date. However, I am pleased to announce the most important part which is: every athlete from the Adirondack series returned home happy, healthy, ready for summer, and yet eager to compete again next year.

On this happy note I will leave you with a quote from an NYSEF athlete taken on April 14, 2013: "can it be next season yet?"

Gapore Day

There is nothing quite like Gapore Day! It is occasionally the case that skiers and riders get too serious about the art of sliding down a mountain. Gapore Day is our way of ensuring that no one gets to serious. We dress silly, we ski goofy, we smile, we laugh, and we have a great time! In this way we are all able to connect with the core values of why we ski in the first place.

To put it in the words of a good friend of mine, "You've got to keep the shred alive!" - Dan Marion

New Athlete Edits

Footy Fest time is here, and although there will not be a location for the event, the competition will still take place online this year. Please take the time to check the 2 NYSEF athlete submissions included below. They are well made, and show off the incredible freestyle talent of the athletes. Enjoy.

JP's random iPhone memories

Hey everyone,
So I happened to be going through the photos on my phone and felt that some of them were too good to keep all to myself. I wanted to share them with you all.

Photos from USASA slopesyle 2

Last Sunday's slopestyle competition was a blast! The weather couldn't have been better, and the level of competition was seriously impressive. Thanks to the athletes for all the great attitudes you all had.

I'd like to give a huge thanks to Jake Sporn for taking photos during the competition. Below are some of the photos he took of NYSEF Freeriders. If you would like to check out any more of Jake's work please go here.

Alex's December edit

The Skiing Weatherman came to Witeface.

The Sunday before the holiday camp had started, the NYSEF freestyle skiers happened to stumble upon The Skiing Weatherman at the top of the Broadway terrain park. After talking to him for a little bit he asked if he could film us skiing through the terrain parks. That made many of the team members very stoked! We took one lap with him through both parks as a group. Many of the shots he got from this one run were eventually used in his episode filmed at Whiteface. Check it out:

"Boxing day at Whiteface"

It's always a wonderful thing to see former NYSEF athletes continuing to push themselves and have fun skiing post-NYSEF. NYSEF alum, Nick Edwards recently posted an edit from a day that he spent skiing at Whiteface with his brother Matt. Nick is currently a student at St. Lawrence University, and Matt is a current student at the Northwood School, in Lake Placid. Both of them are enjoying their holiday time away from school, as you can plainly see in this edit. Enjoy.
